Principal's Biography
Hello, my name is Tom Sullivan and I am thrilled to be the principal at James A. Garfield Middle School. I became part of the Garfield family last year as the assistant principal at the high school. Prior to arriving at Garfield I spent 12 years in the Boardman Local Schools in Boardman, Ohio. I spent 6 years at Boardman High School teaching television broadcasting and production and running their television station and live productions (concerts, plays community events, play by play sports, regular scheduled television shows, and many more). The productions won 6 national awards. I taught 7 years at Glenwood Middle School teaching industrial arts and technology education. I also coached 7th grade boy's basketball and girls track; the teams won 3 conference championships in both sports and 3 county championships in track. I also taught industrial arts at Youngstown Liberty for 2 years and coached both girls basketball and girls track. I also spent a year in Georgia teaching technology education at Liberty County Middle/High School. I also coached varsity football, varsity soccer and middle school soccer. I also spent 1 year coaching 8th grade boy's basketball for Jackson Milton.
I am football official with the Youngstown Football Association for 15 years, where I have enjoyed calling the state semi-final football game and the regional semi-final game 3 times. I am also a track and cross country official for the past 3 years. I was also a basketball official for 3 years.
I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children. I also enjoy wood working and sports. I am looking forward to an exciting school year.
